There was another packed entries list for the popular Baileys Winter Series Jumping and Style (JAS) qualifier last Sunday (12th February), when the series returned to Hartpury for it’s second event.
Once again several riders qualified more than one horse, and the first of those was BE90 winner Libby Seed who is beginning only her third season as a British Eventing member. Having already qualified Mr. Vick in both the Novice and Open at Hartpury’s earlier event, she rode 10-year-old Heliana to victory in the BE90, and also secured a qualifying spot with the mare in the BE100. She also went on to qualify Tara VII in the BE100.
Closely behind her in the BE90 was Katie Williams, who has ridden to two star level. She secured 2nd place with Foxtown Cufflynx, a 6-year-old gelding who is just embarking on his first British Eventing season.
Top of the leader board in the BE100 was three star rider Lucie McNichol, who was introducing Errigal Hill Boy to his first season of eventing. She also managed a double qualification with Kington in the same section.
Louise Chamberlain and Mystic Clover had a successful start to their second season together finishing in 2nd place. The partnership had success in 2011 with a 1st place in the BE100 at Burnham Beeches.
In the Novice Harry Harding had success in this his second year of partaking in the JAS series. He managed to qualify two of his three rides at the event for the final at Addington on the 25th February. Harry and 7-year-old gelding Dillyn VIII took the top spot in the Novice as well as qualifying in the BE100 Section. He also took 3rd place in the Novice with Koora III, a horse he also qualified for the final last season. Harding piloted both horses to win BE100’s during last season.
Sandwiched between Harry’s two rides in the Novice was Emily Proud, finishing in 2nd place. This is the fourth consecutive year that Emily and Spot Awole have qualified for the JAS final.
Anna Horton and Nimble Norman had a successful start to their second season together with a 1st place in the Open section. Nimble Norman is a former ride of Emily Oppenheimer’s. Anna has already qualified anther ride for the final, having taken home a ticket for Dartans Gilbert in the Novice section at both Solihull, and Hartpury’s earlier event.
Two start rider Bryony Wilson took 2nd place with Another Red One. The horse has been campaigned by both Bryony and Spencer Sturmey previously to two star level. Bryony has already qualified another mount for the final. She took the a qualifying place with Arizona in the Open at Solihull, then went on to win the same section at the first Hartpury event.
