Express Eventing, the compact thrill a minute version of eventing will run as a team competition for the 2012/13 Series. The Express Eventing Series will launch in November at the inaugural Horseworld Live event to be staged at the ExCel Exhibition Centre in London.
The team format will build further on the concept of Express Eventing. Teams will be made up of two riders, much as in Formula One, where they will compete for both the individual championship and the team prize.
The Series opener at Horseworld Live will be the main event of Express Eventing Saturday at the London based venue. Fourteen athletes, in seven teams, will once again compete in dressage to music, cross-country and showjumping all in one arena.
After the ExCel launch, the Series will continue in 2013 and venues will include, subject to final agreement, Lincolnshire Show, The CLA Game Fair and the RDS Show in Dublin.
There will be seven teams, and each will have a Team Principal who will be a well-known rider, and they will then select a second team member themselves. There will also be two wildcard places at each event. Many of the athletes will be riding at the Olympic Games, and so it was decided to push back the start of the series until after London 2012.
