Team ESB - A New Approach
Team ESB is a whole new concept in owning and/or riding a well bred event horse. We would love your feedback on what you think of this.
Based in Australia, Equine Sports Breeding was started in 1986 by Vanessa Hawkins with the purchase of ESB Irish Anna and her first foal, ESB Irish Bea.
Having been brought up with horses all her life, Vanessa competed regularly but was constantly frustrated with her search to find the right horse. Winning a scholarship to study the Irish Draught horse she travelled to England and Ireland and, after gaining valuable experience on various stud farms, she was asked to establish short courses for people entering the horse industry, developing a passion for teaching and motivating people in the process.
Vanessa now runs her breeding programme full time, is busy training the youngsters and is developing her property and facilities to run major events as well as an education programme for horse enthusiasts.
Team ESB is a joint venture between ESB (the breeder), riders in the UK, USA and Australia, owners, sponsors and supporters.
Its mission
is ‘to create a united and collaborative approach to foster the personal and professional development of event riders; to promote the sport of eventing; and to encourage sporting excellence and athletic achievement in both the horses and the riders.’
The strategy
to achieve Team ESB is as follows:
ESB will give a purpose bred horse with potential 4* qualities to a selected rider to compete. This partnership will then be supported by other members of the team to achieve the best possible results. If this combination clicks, then everyone’s dream of competing at international level can be achieved, with the ultimate goal of Olympic selection.
If the horse does not measure up to 4* standard, then it can be sold and replaced with another prospect. Proceeds from any sales will be shared by any owners, including ESB, and the rider.
Owners and/or riders are welcome to visit the stud to select their horses if they wish. However it is in the best interests of ESB to only send over those which have good qualities and that have been thoroughly vetted.
The goals
of Team ESB are:
. to create opportunities to maximise the potential of both riders and horses
. to encourage a mentoring system between all members, enhancing horsemanship skills and personal growth and development
. to provide professional and personal support and expertise
. to develop training programmes and provide educational resources to further the knowledge levels, skills and expertise of the team
. to promote and develop the sport of eventing internationally
. to encourage global contacts and friendships
. to provide first class, international exposure for the sponsor
. to maximise the return on investment for the owner (if any)
. to increase the awareness of the ESB operation
. to reward all members of the team with excitement, information, fun, friendships and entertainment
THE RIDER
A Team ESB rider is by invitation only. Selection is based on previous performances or ability and their desire to succeed, but most importantly their personality and being appreciative of this support and opportunity. Consultation with selectors and respected members of the eventing community will be sought.
Benefits to Team ESB riders:
. Not having to spend time and money sourcing quality horses
. Not having to outlay funds to buy horses
. An increased chance of success due to riding purpose bred horses with proven performance history at international level
. Reduced risk of problems due to Australian upbringing, proper management and nutrition in the ESB program
. Support with finding and servicing owners
. Support with finding and servicing sponsors
. Increased networks and friendships, especially overseas
. Options to visit and compete in other countries
. Supply of working students / grooms with high skill levels from other Team ESB riders
. Income from any horses sold
. Increased skill levels from specialised training and mentoring
THE OWNER
A Team ESB owner is anyone who contributes financially to the maintenance of the selected horse. An owner can be the only other person to partner ESB or they may choose to have a share in a number of horses.
Benefits to Team ESB owners:
· Fun and involvement in a great sport with great people
· No huge outlay to buy a horse in the first place
· The option to participate as a part owner and have an interest in more than one horse
· Being able to choose the amount of their financial contribution
· Possible tax and financial benefits
· Knowing that they are going to be looked after by professionals
· Receiving recognition and appreciation for their support
· Developing contacts and friendships around the world
· Being part of the excitement of the Olympic journey
THE SPONSOR
A Team ESB sponsor is any business which contributes cash, product or services to any member of Team ESB in exchange for commercial promotion or gain. ESB is acutely aware of the issues and frustrations sometimes experienced by sponsors. With this in mind we will be drawing on all of our resources, networks and experience to ensure that sponsors receive the maximum benefits from this relationship.
We understand that many sponsorships are altruistic in nature, however we believe that we can develop packages which can be tailored to suit the individual business or product and provide a cost effective, results driven investment. Further details of the benefits of this arrangement are available upon request.
Benefits to the Team ESB sponsors:
· Professional expertise in maximising the promotional opportunities
· Increased revenue from more sales due to results driven packages
· International exposure
· Direct targeting of a greater number of interest specific people
· Increased branding with a larger number of horses and riders competing at elite level
· Access to other Team ESB members to increase social and business networks
· Connecting with an Olympic sport
· Supporting the next generation of Champions
THE SUPPORTER
A Team ESB supporter is anyone who offers to assist a member of the team in any way but do not seek commercial recognition. These may be friends, family, coaches or service providers.
Benefits to the Team ESB supporters:
· Supporters will receive huge hugs of appreciation!
The complete team will be a world first. It will provide a unique combination of skills, resources and expertise; as well as superior marketing, sponsorship and business management to ensure that the interests of all parties are catered for effectively and professionally. All of this will be managed independently but with endorsement from the relevant governing bodies.
